When we were told to choose a specific topic in relation on the Early Education sector (EC), we went online to do various research on what topic we are interested and all of us have different idea. After sorting and listing down our ideas, we decided on the topic “Professional Development (PD)” as we have realized that Singapore is starting to focus a lot in the EC sector and our Prime Minister Lee has also emphasized a lot on the importance of a teacher, how it can influence children. Also, personal I found that it is importance in having PD which can help in self development and improvement.

Before researching, PD to me was attending course given by the centre principal that was held by ECDA. After researching, I have realized that PD in early childhood sector is not just course but it can be any form as long it helps a teacher to improve themselves such as teacher training, workshops and it can be found conducted by polytechnic, university, ECDA and NIEC. EDCA website has also provide lots of information on PD development to allow me to be more aware on it and even the variety of course that is given. Teachers are also allowed to request for PD courses besides waiting for the centre principal sending them to one. 

Also, initially before researching, I though that budget was the main concern that restrict the centre from sending teacher to attend PD courses. However, as researching, I have found out that actually the government and EDCA are starting to invest more on EC sector and providing financial assistance to allow more people to be able to take on PD such as various bond and schemes. These will allow more educators to be able to take on PD by themselves then improve their skills and knowledge which will be benefiting both themselves and the children.
